Wim Drion

Wim Drion (Voorburg, 1946) lives in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and also on Paros a Greek island.

Education: Gerrit Rietveld Academy, graphic work & painting.

Wim Drion teached architecture at the Willem Koning Academy for visual arts and design in Rotterdam and at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem.

The paintings of Wim Drion are hanging in public buildings in Amsterdam, such as at the University of Amsterdam at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, the IJtunnel Police Station, the Querido House and the ‘West-Indisch Huis’. In other places he carried out monumental commissions (% regulation).

His work is included in the collections of major museums such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Stedelijk Museum of Schiedam, the Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht and in the USA and the Czech Republic.

In recent years exhibitions of his work have mainly been held in Greece. In 2015 he participated in the “Orange Water Festival”, a traveling exhibition with work by Greek and Dutch artists who settled in Athens, Crete and Paros.

In 2013 he created “Ode to the Sea”, nominated for the audience award of the Benelux artist group. His work is inspired by Paros (his second home where he resides) – the sea, the sun, the sand…. In 2016, Wim Drion created “Landscapes full of unlimited homesickness”, inspired by the Cyclades island. And as of 2020 Wim Drion continues with his “Nature Inspiration” drawings and oil paintings. His work depicts in detail the atmosphere and scent of the Greek island. With beautiful Indian ink and watercolors he  creates colours and images of repetition.
